As you may know, the Green Committee has been part of the Trex Plastic Recycling program for the past few years. Our goal each year is to collect 1,000 lbs of plastic bags—and if we reach it, Trex rewards us with a bench made from recycled materials. Earlier this year, we challenged you all to help us collect 500 lbs by June 30th – half of our yearly goal. You really stepped up! Our collections jumped from about 5 lbs every two weeks to 20 lbs or more. However, as of July 31, 2025, we’ve collected only **157 lbs **of plastic bags. Since we’re far from meeting our goal, we’ve made the decision to end Trex Plastic Recycling after August 31, 2025. Why the change?
- Trex is not a paid service; committee members personally deliver plastic from the EP office to Cub Foods for recycling.
- With our current totals, earning a bench isn’t realistic, so these trips end up being additional work for the committee without the program’s intended benefit.
What you can do instead:
- Recycle: Drop your plastic recycling off at Cub Foods (in EP, their collection bins are outside of the store) or Target (near the registers).
- Reduce: Utilize reusable tote bags for shopping.
- Reuse: Give plastic bags a second life—use them for pet waste, packing, or storage.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Trex recycling program. Your efforts made a difference, and we appreciate your commitment to sustainability! Thanks, The Green Committee Wes Slaughter Barb Michaels Sean Kurtenbach Jennifer Roberts Abbey Johnson
